I have interviewed Tina. Tina is a PhD student in department of communication. She is very nice.
The answers for question a - f are in the following video clip.
a. Have you recently struck up a conversation with someone you didn't know? What were the circumstances? Do you remember how you started the conversation?
> She has struck up a conversation with a new student in class. She usually says "Hello", "How are you?", and "Why are you taking this class?"
b. If you causally introduce yourself to another person, such as in class, in your neighborhood, at a social function, or at your work, would you shake hands?
> It depends on how formal the situation is. She will probably shake hands if the situation is formal and not otherwise.
c. Do you ever use the expression, "How do you do?" When might you use it? What might you say instead?
> She will use the expression "How do you do?" when she doesn't know the person. She might say "Hello" instead.
d. If you were sitting down and someone introduced you to a friend of his, under what circumstances would you stand up?
> It again depends on the situation. She would stand up if they were adult.
e. Where would you likely to begin a conversation with someone you didn't know? (Note: you may wish to name some locations if the person has trouble answering this question)
> She would begin a conversation if she was sitting with someone for a long time in classroom or airport.
f. How might you strike up a conversation with someone sitting next to you in class?
> She might ask "How are you doing", "What is your background?", and "What are you studying?"
g. Would you start a conversation with a person you didn't know? What would motive you to talk to a stranger?
Moo: Yes, I would if I have to (e.g ask for a direction, ask for a lecture note)
h. Can you think of a conversation you recently began with a stranger? Where were you? What did you talk about?
Moo:When I was in my CSE598A classroom last Tuesday. We talked about some assignment questions that we could not do.
